The Supreme Court of India on Monday appointed former CAG Vinod Rai as the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India

The Supreme Court of India on Monday appointed former CAG Vinod Rai as the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Along with him, famous historian Ramachandra Guha, former women's captain Diana Edulji and IDFC official Vikram Limaye were also appointed.
The court, while hearing the matter, declined the Centre's request. The government wanted to appoint the secretary of sports ministry as the member of the committee. SC stuck to its earlier decision, which debars ministers and government servants from holding office in BCCI.
As for the men who would represent BCCI at the ICC meeting in the first week of February, the court gave the names of Amitabh Chaudhary, Anirudh Chaudhary and Vikram Limaye.
It may be recalled that on January 24, the SC rejected the nine names submitted by the (BCCI) counsel. It however granted senior lawyer Kapil Sabil permission to give suggestions for an interim panel that would run Indian cricket.
On January 2, the SC had dealt the BCCI with a big blow by removing Anurag Thakur as BCCI president. In addition, it also disqualified all the board and its state association office bearers who had failed to meet the new norms set by the Justice Lodha Committee.
On the cricket field, India are engaged in a close tussle with England. The three-match T20 series is tied 1-1.
