Opting to bat first Bangalore lost Chris Gayle early but it turned out to be blessing in disguise for them. With a record breaking double century stand between Virat Kohli and de Villiers, Bangalore posted a mammoth total of 235 runs on the board. Virat played a second fiddle role in his partnership with the South African whose 59 balls 133 runs was laced with as many 19 fours and four sixes. He played his shots all around the ground and the way he carted his inning one of the highlights of the day. RCB captain Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 off 50 to put up a record 215 runs partnership for the second wicket which bettered the previous all-time best of 206 between Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh for Kings XI Punjab against RCB in 2011 at Dharamsala. It is the highest partnership for any wicket in the history of IPL as well as T20s. AB missed the Orange’s cap by just two runs.

There was only one moment in the field to cheer for the home team when Lasith Malinga struck Chris Gayle (13) in his first over.

Chasing a huge total of 235, Mumbai had a bad start but looked poised to chase it down. They didn’t give it up and fought till the last. Parthiv Patel and skipper Rohit Sharma got out cheaply leaving team in a huge trouble. Then Kieron Pollard and Lendl Simmons countered RCB bowling very bravely and not allowed them to run away with the game so easily. They stitched a quick fire 70 runs stand in just 37 balls for the third wicket.

But in the last 7 overs RCB bounced back to restrict them to 196/7 and win the match by 39 runs. Pollard got out in the 15th over and the game was literally over them then. Simmons, Rayudu and McClenaghan did hit few more sixes after that but 235 was a too far ahead for them.

Harshal Patel and Yuzendra Chahal picked up two wickets apiece. Sreenath Aravind got the main wicket of Kieron Pollard and bowled his four overs very cheaply, conceding only 29 runs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore jumped on the fourth spot with 13 points in 11 matches and they have the most handsome net run rate in the points table.
