Former Sri Lanka captains Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene hailed Lasith Malinga after the legendary pacer announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday. While Sangakkara said that Malinga’s contribution to Sri Lanka and world cricket will stand for all time, Jayawardene recalled memories of the first time he faced the bowler with a slinging action.
During the course of the fifth and final one-dayer against Pakistan, Sri Lankan veteran Tillakaratne Dilshan became the latest batsman to enter the 10,000 run club. Dilshan now has 10,007 runs in 319 matches at an average of 39.7 with 22 hundreds and 45 fifties
One could see it coming. For nearly two decades now, Mahela Jayawardene has shouldered the burden of Sri Lanka on his capable shoulders, and has done so with admirable success, in such a sublime manner that you cannot but have great respect for the man.
