A player batting in his debut Test cricket match has hit a century (100 runs or more) on 97 occasions. Charles Bannerman became the first player to achieve this when he scored 165 not out against England during the first ever Test match, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 1877.

Shikhar Dhawan is the first Indian opener to hit a 100 on Test debut - overall, the 30th opener to do so in that format.
Shikhar Dhawan 185* - the highest score by an Indian on Test debut against any Team, beating Viswanath' 137 v Aus at Kanpur 1969.
