Highveld Lions have made it into the Semi Finals from Group B joining the Sydney Sixers after beating Yorkshire by 5 wickets at Johannesburg. With this victory, three teams – Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Yorkshire have been eliminated from the tournament.
Bowling first after winning the toss, the Lions kept Yorkshire down to 131 for 7 through a nice bowling effort. Sohail Tanvir impressed with 4-1-25-2, Chris Morris got 4-0-25-1 while Aaron Phangiso chipped in with 2 for 23 in 4 overs. For Yorkshire, opener Phil Jacques top scored with a 29-ball 31.
Lions in their run chase stuttered slightly under drizzling conditions but the pair of Dwaine Pretorious (25 from 14 balls with 2 fours and a six) along with Jean Symes (27* from 22 balls with 3 fours and six) took them home with four balls to spare. For Yorkshire, off-spinner Azeem Rafiq’s efforts of 4-0-14-1 went in vain. Symes for steering Lions to victory till the end got the Man of the Match award.
