Mumbai Indians defeated Deccan Chargers by 5 wickets in Match 40 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, DLF IPL 2012

Deccan Chargers slipped to yet another morale shattering defeat in IPL 5. Tonight they were embarrassed by hosts Mumbai Indians who bundled them out for a paltry total of 100 all out in 18.4 overs! Mumbai Indians made heavy weather of the target though taking 18.1 overs and losing five wickets to earn their victory.

For starters, DC went into the match with Skipper Kumar Sangakkara dropping himself! Cameron White was the stand-in Captain who lost the toss and his side was asked to bat first. Deccan Chargers from a decent position of 41 for 1 in the 8th over shockingly collapsed to 100 all out with Lasith Malinga capturing 4 for 16. Skipper Harbhajan Singh and James Franklin took a couple of wickets each.

It was torrid time against the new ball that was seaming around both ways and soon Mumbai Indians were struggling at 45 for 3 in the 9th over. Rohit Sharma kept his cool to score a crucial 42 from 48 balls with 4 fours and a six to secure the match for the homeside.

In the end, it was left to AT Rayudu (19* from 15 balls with 2 fours) to steer them to victory for Mumbai Indians after they had slipped to 81 for 5. Dale Steyn was outstanding with figures of 4-0-10-2 and Mumbai Indians did pretty well to just see him off and score the runs against the other bowlers. Steyn got the Man of the Match although he wasn't on the winning side.
