CSK are having a great tournament and are leading the points table with five wins and one loss from six matches. MI have had a middling tournament so far. After six matches, they are at the number four position with three wins and as many losses.
In their previous encounter, CSK steamrolled Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets. After restricting SRH to 171, CSK then chased down the target without any trouble, with seven wickets in hand. After a couple of setback, MI too returned to form with a clinical performance against Rajasthan Royals. In an interesting co-incidence, they also chased down a target of 172 without much hassles, and also won the game by seven wickets
CSK’s prolific opening pair continued their good run in the match against SRH. While Ruturaj Gaikwad was the man of the match for impressive 75 off 44 balls, which featured 12 fours, Faf du Plessis came up with yet another fifty. Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja have been in good form with both bat and ball. CSK would now be hoping for better consistency from Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and skipper MS Dhoni.
The bowling is doing well as a combined unit. Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran have been impressive at the top while Lungi Ngidi’s inclusion has added teeth to the pace attack. It is the form of Shardul Thakur that they may be concerned with.
The biggest plus for MI from the win against RR was the return to form of Quinton de Kock. The wicketkeeper-batsman slammed an unbeaten 70 off only 50 balls to guide the team home in a chase of 172. Krunal Pandya also got some much-needed runs. However, the experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav will need to lift their game. They have been giving away too many starts.
MI’s bowling has been top-notch as everyone from Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah to Rahul Chahar have been contributing handsomely. They would want the same to continue
