Match Report of Sri Lanka Vs England, Day 3, 2nd Test at P Sara Oval, Colombo

England find themselves in control of the Second and Final Test at the P Sara Oval in Colombo after taking a sizeable first innings lead of 185 runs. Kevin Pietersen with a 20th Test century carried England to a solid total of 460.

By Stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka are 4 for no loss in the only one over they had to face so far in their second innings. Earlier, England resuming the third day’s play at 154 for 1 dominated through Pietesen’s knock of 151 (from just 165 balls with 16 fours and 6 sixes).

Kevin PietersenThere was a controversial moment in the day’s play when Pietersen was warned from changing his stance for a pre-determined switch hit he intended to play much before the bowler Tillakaratne Dilshan got into his delivery stride. Umpire Asad Rauf had warned KP with five penalty runs had he or even any other English batsman played the shot again.

Earlier, overnight batsman Alastair Cook who resumed the morning on 77 missed out on a century by just six runs. Cook scored 94 (from 278 balls with 9 fours) while his overnight partner Jonathan Trott made 64 (from 137 balls with 7 fours). Rangana Herath did the damage control for Sri Lanka capturing 6 for 133 bowling 53 overs.
