Sri Lanka crashed to a humiliating innings and 201-run defeat in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. The visitors have also conceded the series 0-2 with one more Test to be played. The Aussies had to take just the seven wickets in the Sri Lankan second innings with Kumar Sangakkara retiring hurt after getting hit by a Mitchell Johnson bouncer and the already injured Prasanna Jayawardene (broken finger) and Chanaka Welegedara (hamstring tear) not turning out to bat.

The Aussies who resumed Day 3 at 440 for 8 were bowled out with the addition of 20 more runs early in the morning. Mitchell Johnson missed out on his second Test century as he was stranded on an unbeaten 92 (from 150 balls with 7 fours).

Australia then wrapped up the Lankan innings in just 24.2 overs with the visitors folding to 103 all out in the post lunch session. Future Captain Angelo Mathews was the top scorer with 35 (from 48 balls) before dragging a pull shot off Mitchell Johnson onto the stumps. Sangakkara was batting on 27 when he had to retire hurt following a nasty blow on his index finger.

The Player of the Match award went to left-arm quick Mitchell Johnson who took six wickets along with the unbeaten 92.
