New Zealand has won the First ODI against minnows Zimbabwe by a huge margin of 90 runs at the University Oval in Dunedin just a few minutes ago. Asked to bat first by Zimbabwe Skipper Brendan Taylor, New Zealand got bowled out for a modest 248 in 48.3 overs with medium pacer Shingi Masadza picking up an impress 4 for 46 while Elton Chigumbura bowling well for his 2 for 46.

For the Kiwis, opener Martin Guptill scored an attacking 70 from 66 balls with 9 fours. The rest of the batsmen failed to score anything big but there were meaningful contributions.

Martin GuptillZimbabwe in reply saw the top order blown away at 15 for 3 from which it was a huge struggle. A fine innings of 58 from 68 balls with 8 fours and a six from Skipper Brendan Taylor was the only the bright part of the Zimbabwean innings. The visitors folded to 158 all out in 41.4 overs to lose by 90 runs. The chief wicket takers for the Black Caps were off spinner Rob Nicol with 4 for 19 in 4.1 overs and Kyle Mills with 3 for 26 in 8 overs. The Man of the Match award was given to Martin Guptill for his 70.

Early on New Zealand gave debuts to three players - Dean Brownlie, Andrew Ellis and Tom Latham. The hosts were led by Brendon McCullum in the absence of Ross Taylor and also doubled up as the Wicket Keeper.
