Rain forced the third ODI at Edgbaston in Birmingham between England and Australia on Wednesday to be abandoned. This is annoyingly the second match of the series to be abandoned without a result due to rain. The First ODI at Leeds was washed out without a ball bowled while this third ODI had some action of 15.1 overs.

Australia asked England to bat first after winning the toss and had the hosts under pressure at 59 for 3 before rain had the last laugh. Rain first delayed the proceedings after toss by 20 minutes and then returned early in the 16th over.

England had a worst start losing a wicket in the first over itself with Michael Carberry getting run out. Star batsman Kevin Pietersen was dismissed cheaply for 6 by Mitchell Johnson in the 6th over. No.4 Joe Root scored 12 from 24 balls before he patted back a return catch to part-time spinner Adam Voges.

When the rain arrived, England had Jonathan Trott on 28* (from 41 balls with 2 fours) along with Skipper Eoin Morgan (5*) at the crease. The 5-match series is being led 1-0 by the Aussies with just two more games left.
