The suspense over whether former India captain Sourav Ganguly will play Sunday's match for Pune Warriors against Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League continued with the Pune team

The suspense over whether former India captain Sourav Ganguly will play Sunday's match for Pune Warriors against Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League continued with the Pune team officials refusing to confirm his inclusion in the final eleven.

"I cannot confirm if Ganguly is playing in today's match against Punjab," a team official said.

After being ignored at the players' auctions earlier this year, the former Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper was picked up by Pune as a replacement for an injured Ashish Nehra.

Ganguly, 38, was given a cold shoulder by Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise as well as nine others, who didn't bid for him during the auctions.

With Pune languishing at the bottom of the points table, the visitors are now looking forward to Ganguly to restore some pride in their IPL campaign.

The Pune Warriors are in the midst of a disastrous campaign, having lost seven consecutive matches under Yuvraj Singh's captaincy.

In a role reversal of sorts, Yuvraj, who once played under Ganguly in the Indian team, will see the Bengal veteran play under him now.

"It feels great that Sourav is playing under me. He has always helped me as a captain (of the Indian team) and now it's my duty to help him," Yuvraj had said about Ganguly.

Yuvraj also hoped that Ganguly's inclusion in the side will help Pune return to winning ways.

"Hopefully, he will get us a win. It's good to have him back. I just feel someone who has been captain of Indian team for a long time can always help the youngsters. Hopefully, he will hit few sixes with the bat," he said.
