South African pacer Vernon Philander who has been on a roll taking three consecutive five-wicket hauls in Tests is being signed up by English County - Somerset for the next season. The 26-year-old Philander is likely to play for a couple of months for Somerset before he most likely joins the South African team for the England tour.
Philander has so far played only 3 Tests and 7 ODIs for the Proteas but has some solid experience in domestic cricket since the last seven years. The 26-year-old had a dream debut at the Test level taking 5 for 15 on debut against the Aussies at Cape Town. Philander is an all-rounder though he is yet to make any impression with the bat atleast at the international level.
