Sri Lanka got away with a draw in the 1st Test against West Indies at Galle thanks to significant rain interruptions throughout the match. The hosts were kept under tremendous pressure after West Indies had put up 580 for 9 declared with Chris Gayle smashing his second triple century. Man of the Match - Gayle scored 333 from 437 balls with 34 fours and 9 sixes. Ajantha Mendis was the most successful bowler for SL taking 6 for 169 in as many as 59 overs.

The homeside did decently well to put up 378 in 95.2 in their first innings but that wasn't enough to save the follow on. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara was the top scorer with 73. For the West Indies, off spinner Shane Shillingford did the damage taking four wickets. Sri Lanka after being asked to follow on got to 241 for 4 in 81.2 overs before rain had the final say. Opener Tharanga Paranavitana was the top scorer this time around with a 219-ball 95.
