Pakistan continued their dominance over Zimbabwe as the Elton Chigumbura-led side was reeling on 151/7 before rain interrupted the play for the second time at the new Pallekele Stadium in Kandy on Monday.

Pakistan struck as soon as the play resumed after the first rain break.

Off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez bowled Craig Ervine, who was batting solidly on 52 off 82 balls before the rain break.

Earlier, Pakistan new-ball bowlers jolted their opponents with early wickets before rain stopped play.

Medium pacer Abdul Razzak gave his side the first breakthrough as he got rid of Brendon Taylor. The right hander gave a simple catch to Kamran Akmal, who pouched it without making any mistake this time around.

Umar Gul then struck with two quick wickets - Vusi Sibanda and Regis Chakabwa, while the third seamer in the side, Wahab Riaz, gave the opponents the third blow in form of Tatenda Taibu after Elton Chigumbura won the toss and elected to bat.

Earlier, with an aim to confirm their quarterfinal qualification, Pakistan took on Zimbabwe.

Pakistan, with six points from four games, need just one more win to seal a place in the last-eight stage of the tournament.

Despite his howlers against New Zealand, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal retained his place but still there were two changes in the Pakistan team, with Wahab Riaz and Asad Shafiq coming back in place of Shoaib Akhtar and an injured Umar Akmal respectively.

In case of Zimbabwe, they too made a couple of changes, bringing in Shingirai Masakadza and Vusi Sibanda in place of Chris Mpofu and Tinashe Panyangara.
