Ryan Harris scalped Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli in his successive overs as Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a bad start in pursuit of a 233-run victory target in their IPL match at HPCA stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday.

Adam Gilchrist took a good diving catch to dismiss Chris Gayle for a duck off Harris in the second over and in the next over Dinesh Karthik caught a flying edge off Kohli's bat to give Harris his second wicket.

Bangalore lost their third wicket when Shalabh Srivastava had Saurabh Tiwary caught by David Hussey at mid-wicket.

Bangalore lost their fourth wicket in the next over when Paul Valthaty had Asad Pathan caught by Hussey in the covers.

Piyush Chawla then had Mohammad Kaif stumped by Gilchrist to reduce Bangalore to 72/5.

Earlier, Gilchrist's 55-ball 106 and Shaun Marsh's 49-ball 79 powered Punjab to 232/2.

Punjab registered the highest score in IPL 4 thanks to the 206-run partnership between Gilchrist and Marsh that came off just 98 balls.

Gilchrist reached his second IPL century off 53 balls and was dismissed when he edged a Charl Langeveldt delivery to Chris Gayle at short third man in the last over of the Punjab innings.

Marsh, who reached his fifty off 34 balls, hit 30 runs in an over by Johan van der Wath that came through 3 sixes and 3 fours.

Gilchrist hit a 25-ball half-century to take Punjab's score over the 100-run mark in the tenth over.

Gilchrist hit two consecutive sixes off Gayle and three consecutive sixes off Langeveldt to accelerate Punjab's innings.

Langeveldt gave Royal Challengers an early breakthrough when he had Paul Valthaty caught by Saurabh Tiwary at mid-off in the fourth over

Valthaty hit a six and 2 fours in his 17-ball 20 before falling to Langeveldt.

The breakthrough came after Gilchrist won the toss and chose to bat.

Punjab brought in Abhishek Nayar for Bhargav Bhatt.

Bangalore replaced Luke Pomerscbach and Zaheer Khan with Johan van der Wath and Asad Pathan.
